According to church tradition, weddings are not held from August 1st to 15th, as this is the period of the Assumption Fast, nor on August 29th (the Beheading of St. John the Baptist). Christenings, by contrast, are permitted as normal throughout the month, even during the first fifteen days — which makes August an ideal period for a summer christening, while the wedding can comfortably be scheduled for the second half of the month.
